I am so excited to share these golden Reno fall family portraits of my beautiful friend Talia and her amazing family!

You may recognize Talia if I (we) have photographed your wedding or newborn(s)! She has been my second photographer for MANY weddings, and she’s also assisted on several newborn sessions with me. If you know her, you know that she is the sweetest!

Talia created my maternity portraits when I was pregnant with my twins, and our family portraits when the twins were one. She is such an incredible photographer and I have been lucky to work alongside her.

Although it’s nerve-wracking to photograph another photographer, I was SO excited when Talia let me know that her Mom Linda wanted me to create fall family portraits for them this year! It turns out that Linda is ALSO a photographer, so the pressure was ON! But actually, this family is SO laid back and their sense of humor is so amazing that I was laughing the WHOLE time.

The fall colors were POPPIN’ here at the Thomas Creek Trailhead. It’s such a lovely place to shoot during fall in Reno. I was so glad to be there on an amazing fall day with this family.

Unfortunately, it was also freezing. But I bet you can’t tell from the photos. Can you? I can’t, but maybe I’m biased LOL.

Fall Colors for Golden Reno Fall Family Portraits

I was so excited when Jenn asked me to create these Hope Valley family portraits for her! I have known her since my very early photography days through mutual friends and it was amazing to see how her family has grown over the years.

It’s always my greatest joy to see families evolve and capture precious moments in time that fly by. These will be priceless portraits, especially when these kiddos are older <3

Also, let me tell you how much I love Hope Valley. It’s one of the most gorgeous areas during fall. It’s been a few years since I have taken pictures here. So, I was thrilled to be there! And this family did an amazing job at choosing wardrobe to compliment the beautiful landscape.

Our shoot happened to be during a cold snap, but they absolutely rocked the cold weather (and wind). Ugh – the wind! It’s hard to escape around here – but honestly it brings that “real life” feel to portraits with hair swirling around and I love that about it.

Hope Valley Family Portraits

You’ll see that Berkley is basically a perfect child model with her amazing smiles and poses. She was a joy to photograph – truly. And you’ll also see that little baby bear Bruin REALLY liked being thrown in the air. He also really loves his teething ring!

Jenn and Kyle also introduced me to a VERY cool spot in Hope Valley. Those portraits are at the end of this post, with the river running through. I will definitely come back to that spot – you can bet on it!

I have some fall Reno forest family photos for you today! This is my fourth year photographing Theo and he is always such a joy to capture! What makes this year even more special is that his parents joined him for family portraits as well.

Anahi, Mike and Theo are such a wonderful trio. I LOVE their fall family portraits together at Callahan Park.

We took some portraits in a wide variety of scenes at Callahan park. At this amazing location, there is a creek, a fun playground, lots of pine trees and tons of high desert scenery as well. An AMAZING combo of landscapes!

I also got some amazing shots of Theo (of course). Did you know he loves robots?! He probably thinks I am such a dork because I called the robots from Star Wars drones instead of droids. UGH! And you know what…I am actually a huge Star Wars fan. But apparently words escape me these days!

I absolutely love the expressions I got from Theo for his four-year portraits during this lovely fall day. I had so much fun following him around this lovely park in Reno (a true fall gem in our area).

I LOVE seeing families again and again for family photos. It’s the highest compliment when families return to me year after year. I photographed Jen and George’s wedding in Santa Cruz (a while ago, as you can see by my previous business name, ha) and now I see them often for family portraits! It was an honor to create these sunflower family photos for them!

This year, Jen was hoping for some sunflowers in August, but my schedule was CRAZY and we missed the sunflower festival at Andelin Family Farm.

BUT – the day before our shoot, I saw that Ferrari Farms was beginning their Summer of Sunflowers. What AMAZING timing!

Jen and I pivoted (any Friends fans here?) so we could get that amazing sunflower scenery that she originally wanted.

I’m thrilled that this location worked out for their family photos. They are so beautiful and fun. Aside from the location, this session was a blast – the kiddos here always make me laugh so much!

I also want to thank Jen for being patient and gracious with me shooting in a totally new location. The sun threw me for a little loop because I normally shoot closer to the mountains, but Ferrari Farms is in a super wide flat spot in Reno. And honestly it’s the type of light I WISH I could have at every location! So golden and gorgeous! I love these sunflower family photos and I hope you do, too.

I loved creating these spring Verdi family photos for the Spangler family! It was full of laughs and rude little boy humor (which I absolutely love, FYI)!

This lovely apple orchard in Verdi is a gorgeous backdrop for any photos, but I always find that it’s especially fun with kids. They usually love walking in the tall grass and checking out the cool trees. AND, as if this spot couldn’t get more magical…we almost always see deer passing through at the end of our sessions here.

It just so happens that some deer did visit us at the very end of our time together in the beautiful meadow.

Wesley and Parker cracked me up for the duration of our session and I hope they had fun making me laugh!

This session has the perfect mix of posed & candid portraits…I love them ALL. It was so hard to narrow down a reasonable amount of images to share on the blog.

It was so fun seeing this family again for their colorful Reno family portraits at Crystal Peak Park! It’s been a while since they were in front of my camera.

Seeing families grow and change is one of the greatest joys of my job. And since I saw this family last, they added a new little boy to the group!

Adding pets to family photos

The Pearson family also wanted to include their puppers into the family portraits, as they are both getting up there in age. It’s so special to be asked to create portraits with pets – once they are gone, those photos are invaluable.

One thing I thought was so fun about this session is that the Pearsons are a funny group, and they weren’t afraid of silly pictures. I was laughing this WHOLE session.

I hope you love them, Pearson family! It was blast catching up with you guys!

Another note, I love this family’s wardrobe color scheme. Not only are they some of my favorite colors, but also it’s fun to add color into sessions. If you’re looking for colorful Reno family portraits, this session can serve as amazing inspiration for your own wardrobe choices!

Oh boy, it looks like I let time get away from me! I created these Spring bright and airy family portraits back in April for this amazing family!

It was so fun to see them again on a GORGEOUS spring afternoon (I created their fall photos in 2019 and maternity photos before that).

It was an absolutely perfect (and warm) day for portraits at Rancho San Rafael. Blossoming pear trees are some of my favorites in our area. Luckily, some had started to bloom at the time of our session.

I was also so happy to include their two beautiful german shepherds into the shoot as well. They were so well behaved and fun to work with, too!

This family is always such a joy to photograph and I hope to see them again soon!

These happy spring family photos and one year portraits at Evan’s Canyon Trail make me so HAPPY!

Let me tell you why:

First of all, I met Shannon several moons ago before I was a full-time photographer and I’ve always thought she was so kind and amazing. And now she is married and they have the SWEETEST baby boy. So I was elated to create these family portraits for her!

Secondly, her little guy, Braven, is turning ONE, so these portraits get to be a part of that incredible milestone.

And third, Shannon was the lucky winner of the Mother’s Day Giveaway I hosted in collaboration with The Stylish Scribe, Cherry Bomb Catering, and Quality Event Design.

Spring Family Photos at Evan’s Canyon Trail

Although it’s a short trek to get to this spot, it’s so worth a little tromp through the dirt. It can also apparently be a little mushy in Spring, but this family handled it like champs!

I’m so glad that Braven gave me the happiest smiles for his one year portraits here, and I got some of the BEST family portraits as well.

When I first set out to photograph weddings, “staying with” a family as they grow was always my dream from the get-go. And this family has fulfilled my wish!

It’s been amazing to document these many wonderful times for this family! And it was so good to see them after a whole year has passed.

The last time we saw each other was RIGHT when I was allowed to start working again after the original pandemic shutdowns. Alyssa has grown SO MUCH.

This sweet girl always has the most adorable outfits, which you can see by looking at our previous sessions. I absolutely love all of her ensembles!

Near the end of our session, Alyssa wasn’t totally feeling the photos anymore. Can you blame a two-year-old? Of course not! Luckily, I found that she enjoys watching things fly – so I threw my stuffed duck at my own head. Hetty then brought out Alyssa’s special pig and she had a BLAST throwing that poor piggy all over the place. The whole thing produced my favorite photos of the whole session.

I also want to applaud Alyssa for giving me some wonderful smiles for her Reno 2 year portraits even though I’m wearing a mask – thank you, sweet girl!

And we’ll end with this inspiring life lesson from Alyssa: when things just seems hard, throw a pig in the air and walk away like it ain’t no thing.
