2014

January 29, 2016 in Get to Know Us

As we approach every new year, I actually enjoy taking some time to look back, reflect upon the major events that passed, recognize how things have changed and set some goals for the new year ahead.

Early into 2014, we began the process of obtaining full custody of Ben, (which stretched all the way into July). We’ve always thought our house was a healthier environment, but we never expected to change the 50/50 agreement until some really unfortunate circumstances led us to fight for Ben’s safety and well-being.  Around the same time we started that process, I found out I was pregnant with Cooper and needless to say, the next 9 months were a whirlwind!

My goals for 2014 were to balance life & work much better, and although this year was more successful in that than 2013, there is still a lot of progress to be made in that area. I have a feeling that my baby boy will force me more than ever to create a work-life balance that makes sense for our family.

In 2014, we photographed beautiful weddings for incredible couples (I did them ALL while pregnant with my baby man), lots of portraits, several events including the 2nd annual FashMobReno, and fabulous styled shoots that we were so proud to be a part of. Although I had to tone my business back a notch through my pregnancy, it was a great year for Fifth and Chestnut Photo Co.. We’ve been maturing and learning how to balance life with the biz, and that’s something we’ll continually work on – especially with the arrival of our baby boy!

It’s scary as an entrepreneur and self-employed person to make big changes – like have a baby. The next year will be a challenge as we discover how to modify the business to adjust to life with a baby, but I know we’ll work through it and figure out how to balance everything. I’m quite the workaholic and previous to my baby, the business WAS my baby, but becoming a mommy instantly changed my outlook. For many years, I feel like I’ve worked for the business rather than the business working for me, so 2015 will be the year I roll out some changes that I’ve been longing to roll out for a long time. I’m hoping to make happier clients and a happier home life all at once.
