Capturing Sparkling Moments: Edgy and Modern Senior Portraits in Downtown Reno
For these edgy and modern senior portraits in Downtown Reno, I’ll share how I captured the excitement and glamour of dressing up in a formal gown against the backdrop of a vibrant city. First and foremost, I want to say that Katie was a DREAM to work with! Speaking of dreams, it has been one of mine to photograph a senior on a rooftop parking garage with a cool car for a WHILE. I’m so glad that Katie and I made this happen together, with help from the Bishop Family who lent us their amazing BMW convertible!
Setting the Stage
Reno, Nevada, known as “The Biggest Little City in the World,” offers a unique blend of urban charm and glitzy casino lights, making it the perfect backdrop for a prom-themed photoshoot or elegant and modern senior portraits. The rooftop parking garages near the iconic casinos create a dazzling atmosphere that perfectly complements the sparkle and excitement of dressing up in a formal gown. Also, the BMW adds a really fun element into the mix! As you can see, cars can be AMAZING props for your senior portraits!
Preparation
Photographing on a rooftop parking garage requires careful planning to ensure safety and success. To prepare, I hauled a bunch of lighting gear up to the top of this parking garage, but it was absolutely worth it. We also had to make sure we got the car into the proper orientation. So, I had a bit of fun parking the BMW! The golden hour at sunset provided a soft, warm light that enhanced the glamorous ambiance. AND I AM HERE FOR IT!
Styling and The Setting
Katie’s formal gowns were so fitting for this photoshoot! The sparkle of her first dress adds an extra layer of magic to the portraits of her with the BMW. Additionally, the sparkle effect is especially captivating when set against the reflective windows on the casino in the background. Don’t you think!?
This rooftop of a parking garage senior session also offers an urban charm and an elevated perspective. We embraced the surroundings by incorporating elements like casino lights, skyline views, and city architecture into the shots.
Conclusion
Photographing these edgy and modern senior portraits with Katie was so much fun. I ADORE the images we captured, and I just had a total blast with her on a warm summer night.
