April 9th, 2011 was my first annual Hard Luck & Love FREE family portrait event. It was a beautiful (but cold) day – and I really appreciate everyone who came out!
For those who don’t want to read my previous blog about it, Hard Luck & Love is an event I plan on doing every year just to give free portrait sessions to families who normally can’t go spend $200 or so on family portraits. I’m giving each of these families a nice 8×10 print of their favorite photo AND a chance to win a 1-hour session with me in the future.
Next year, I will do some things VERY differently – like advertise the event in many different ways other than on Facebook and via flyers. I think things worked out wonderfully for those that attended, though. I was actually able to spend more time with all the families, which was awesome 🙂 Thank you SOOOO much everyone. I hope you enjoy your photos – I had a great time with all of you!
I also want to extend an extra special thank you to my boyfriend Matt, who courageously kept me warm while we waited several hours for drop-ins. He also took some amazing portraits of me while we were waiting 🙂
My first (and last) session of the day was Andrea & Darrell with their baby Matthew. The reason they were first and last was that they were willing to wait until I was done with the other families so they could squeeze more photos in. Their patience was EPIC. Andrea was super brave and ditched her jacket in lieu of a sparkly tank top – and for that, I salute you! Andrea and Darrell hadn’t yet been able to have photos taken of little Matthew, and I’m so happy I could do this for them. If you have never seen a baby boy play with a flower before – prepare to AWWWWW!!!!!
Next up was Steve and his son Carter. Carter is such a character…he was a lot of fun to photograph! He even sat perfectly still for the last few shots for me only in exchange for an Oreo. I loooooove taking photos of Dads and their sons. It’s so cute to see how much they look alike. I absolutely adore the photos where Steve is giving Carter a little airplane ride. So cute.
Next was Heather, Nelson and their little girl, Hope. Hope was super sweet and mostly looked at me when I asked her to 🙂 I loved taking photos of these guys because they definitely know how to have fun. I was really happy with all the settings we found. Rancho San Rafael is so awesome for that. You can take a short walk and BAM – totally different scenery. I also applaud Nelson for wearing shorts and sandals on such a cold day! Thanks again for coming out guys!
Okay, wow. That was a lot of photos. Enjoy 🙂 I’ll announce the winner of the free 1-hour session later this week!
