Mayberry Park is one of my all time favorite portrait locations – especially in the fall. I love the mix of high desert, park and river settings available here for Mayberry Park Portraits. In early fall, the park glows with oranges and yellows. By late fall, you get more subdued fall colors and earthtones (which I love).
I even personally chose this location for portraits of my newphews and sons when my Mother in Law asked me to create portraits of all her grandkids. That’s really how much I love Mayberry Park Portraits!
Below is a small sampling of the amazing portraits we can capture at this location!
Bartley Ranch portraits are fantastic if you’re looking for a bit of rustic charm. Whether you’re doing family portraits, head shots, engagement photos or anything else, Bartley Ranch is a beautiful AND rustic location for your portrait session right in the middle of Reno. It’s a great spot and I recommend it to all my families/couples who want variety and a touch of that country look for their portraits.
As you can see below, there is a lot of variety at Bartley Ranch. From old wooden structures, to beautiful trees and grass…all the way to a vintage school house – Bartley Ranch has it all. Popular spots are in front of the school house, along the old wooden buildings and even near the big ranch house on property. One of my favorite hidden gems is the path on the hill…there are so many awesome nooks and crannies to photograph along that path.
The Mt. Rose chutes area is a fantastic location for various types of portraits: weddings, engagements, seniors and more. It’s great any time of the year EXCEPT winter, as we will not have access (when Mt. Rose is open). This spot is a little harder to get to (and a little bit of a hike), so make sure to wear some “walking” shoes to get there.
During Fall, the leaves turn orange and yellow, and there is a warm glow all around. In the Summer and late Spring, the foliage is lush and gorgeous. This area makes for grand, sweeping landscapes – adding so much beauty and interest to a wide portrait shot. I love shooting this area in the evening, when the sun is low and golden.
The Mt. Rose Chute area is in use during Mt. Rose’s winter operating hours, so the window to use this location is somewhat short…so if you love this location, make sure to book a Fall, late Spring or Summer session.

Fallen Leaf Lake is a stunningly gorgeous Lake Tahoe location for portraits. If you’re interested in Fallen Leaf Lake portraits, read ahead!
Fallen Leaf Lake is located near South Lake Tahoe, between the casinos and Emerald Bay. Glen Alpine Falls at Fallen Leaf Lake is really breathtaking once you see the area in person. The lower falls are where I prefer ti photograph sessions ranging from family and maternity to engagement.
Lower Glen Alpine Creek Falls at Fallen Leaf Lake changes with the season, as with any other waterfall. In the early summer, the falls are more productive, and towards the end of summer, the falls slow down.
The photos below were taken in August, when the falls were calm. This is the best time, in my opinion, for Fallen Leaf Lake portraits at Glen Alpine Falls!
In addition – this area is for the more adventurous. It’s not easy to get to, and you have to be willing to change plans if the waterfall is more or less raging at the time of your session. It’s totally worth the drive, though.

The Kahle Meadow is a place I’ve visited in South Lake Tahoe with my husband and baby, but it’s not a place I have photographed professionally – yet. Below are some examples from my phone (and a few from my camera) of this beautiful spot in South Lake Tahoe. It’s an extremely easy spot to get to and explore for any type of portrait session. However, lake shots at this location are not possible, so only choose this location if photos of the lake are not what’s the most important aspect of your session in Lake Tahoe.

HWY 267 Meadow portraits are absolutely gorgeous in the Fall, when the aspen leaves are golden-yellow. The HWY 267 Meadow is actually a meadow with no name along HWY 267 leading to King’s Beach in Lake Tahoe. There is a little rickety cabin on-site, along with aspens as I mentioned before and also beautiful pines and long grass.
It’s a beautiful area to walk through, and the light is just beautiful shortly before sunset in Lake Tahoe.
This is an easy place to get to and explore for any type of portrait. If you’re interested in this spot, we will coordinate a great time to photograph here, and I’ll send detailed driving directions so you can find it more easily!

Let’s just say – WOW. The Eagle Falls trail head is an incredible location for portraits for several reasons. First of all, Eagle Falls portraits are very unique…this spot is not terribly easy to get to when coordinating with a photographer, and it’s on the side of the lake that takes a little more time to travel to, depending on where you’re staying in Lake Tahoe, or where you live in Reno/Sparks. Secondly, Eagle Falls has a beautiful downward view of Emerald Bay and Fannette Island in Lake Tahoe. Eagle Falls also has (you guessed it) a waterfall cascading down into Lake Tahoe, surrounded by pines and beautiful rocky ledges.
I do not recommend family/child sessions with YOUNG children at this location due to the cliffs and raging waterfalls. However, it is an amazing place for any other type of session…including proposals, engagements, maternity or families with older children. It’s also a popular spot for elopements.

Speedboat Beach portraits are some of my favorite Lake Tahoe portraits I’ve taken. Speedboat Beach is one of the more secluded public beaches on the North side of Lake Tahoe (so shhh, don’t tell anyone about it), and there are beautiful rock formations reminiscent of Sand Harbor in Incline.
The sand is soft, the light is gorgeous and the water is crystal clear. There’s no question that your Speedboat Beach portraits would be absolutely amazing.
Honestly, this is my FAVORITE Lake Tahoe spot to photograph families and engagements. It’s also my favorite spot to swim and hang out with my family!
Note: Dogs are not allowed, and like most Lake Tahoe beaches, neither are glass bottles. You’ll have to park along the public streets leading up to the beach, and walk in.

Sand Harbor is a gorgeous location for family portraits, or portraits of any kind in our greater Northern Nevada and Northern California area. It is one of my favorite locations for portraits for many reasons. First of all, Sand Harbor is along the shore of the always stunning Lake Tahoe. Secondly, the light is amazing on the Northeastern side of the lake, right where Sand Harbor is located. I’ve photographed Sand Harbor portraits (including engagement and maternity portraits) at different parts of the year, and it’s always beautiful. Sand Harbor also has a huge variety of sandy areas, tons of rocks and crystal clear aqua water in every which direction. As a result, Sand Harbor provides the most amazing backdrops you could ask for in Lake Tahoe.
Sand Harbor is a Nevada State Park, and requires a $12 entrance fee, so please bring cash with you! They do not allow dogs, so this is not an ideal choice for family portraits that include pets. The Sand Harbor State Park’s hours change throughout the seasons, so this may not always be an option for your portrait location depending on the time of the year. We also may have to shoot your Sand Harbor portraits earlier in the day than I would normally aim for, due to their schedule. Restrictions aside, Sand Harbor is one of the hands-down most beautiful locations for portraits in the Lake Tahoe area! Contact me today if you’d like more information on Sand Harbor portraits!
