There aren’t many things in this world that can get me choked up and teary eyed… Only three things I know of that do it consistently. At the top of that list is seeing Dads with their sons. I am a dad, and I am a son with a dad, so I know how deep and powerful that bond can be. Everyone has heard of the motherly bond, but it’s not often you hear talk of the bond that fathers form with their sons. Unlike what I hear mothers say, this is not a bond that is there from the start. It is a bond that is forged. From the moment you start spending time with your son, the bond grows stronger. Over years, it is forged into something that is beyond words. It is something that is unique and special to every father and son.
When I see a father with his son, I don’t see that bond, I feel it and I want everyone around to feel it too. This is why I am starting a new personal project to photograph fathers with their sons. I am looking to photograph dads and sons of any age doing the things they love to do together. For example, I love fishing with my boy. We love to snowboard, swim, and go to the Monster Truck Rally.
If you are a dad of a son, or if you know a dad of a son, get in contact with me. Being as this is a personal project and is in no way for profit, I will do the photography for free, and I will give you a 4×6 or 8×10 of the resulting photo. Other prints will be available at our normal prices. I am shooting this as a personal project for a few reasons. First, it is something that is deeply meaningful to me and, well, I just wanna do it. Also, personal projects are important for photographers. They keep us creative, keep us pushing ourselves, and allow us some freedom to experiment and take risks that are often hard to do during paid shoots, but mostly, this one just means a lot to me.
