Veronica and Miguel are getting married in March at the Lake Tahoe Golf Course, and I have the honor of photographing their big day! They are planning their wedding from afar, so in November, we met at Sand Harbor State Park for their Tahoe engagement session while they were in town visiting family.
Braving the storm for Veronica & Miguel’s Tahoe Engagement
As the weather is unpredictable here in Northern Nevada, especially at Lake Tahoe, I braced for a complicated afternoon when it started raining sideways in Reno on my way up to the Lake for the shoot. I even stopped at one point and sent Veronica a video or photos of what it was like before heading up over the pass…because surely it was crazier up at the lake! And just FYI, I have protective covers for my gear if rain/snow passes beyond my camera’s “weather resistant” comfort zone. Luckily, the weather was actually better up at the lake and so I trekked forward through rain, heavy winds and then snow.
When I arrived in Incline, I was happy to see that Sand Harbor was in some sort of magical pocket where it was kind of drizzling here and there, but it stayed mostly dry throughout the session. I didn’t even need to break out my camera’s rain coat. But, the weather did make it’s presence known at the end of our Tahoe engagement session when I made Veronica and Miguel stand still for way too long as I adjusted my speedlight to catch the glimmer of the snowflakes that were beginning to fall all around them.
I think the shots are kind of magical and totally worth it!
Adventuring around Sand Harbor for a stormy and dramatic tahoe engagement
We got about 2 hours worth of photography in…even during the storm! And Veronica and Miguel braved the weather and the threat of torrential downpour with grace and amazing attitudes. They are adventurous, fun and totally sweet. I really enjoyed seeing them interact during their engagement session…especially during these somewhat adverse conditions, haha! They aren’t afraid to climb up and down rocks, or get wet or tromp through sand – so awesome!
After spending this time with them during their engagement, I am even MORESO looking forward to photographing their wedding in just a few months. I can’t wait to see them again, and I hope they adore these portraits like I do!
- I love this image of Veronica and Miguel interacting as they balance on these precarious rocks on the shore of Lake Tahoe!
- Look at that aqua water behind this beautiful couple – so gorgeous!
- So, this was a test shot. But I love it so much, it just had to go into their final collection!
- Thank you, Veronica and Miguel, for getting totally soaked while I made these images in the rain/snow. They are really special to me because the work we ALL put in to get “the shot.”
